About this Collection
In the spring of 2007, the National Historical Publications and Records Commission awarded the Archives of Michigan a digitization grant. This grant enabled the Civil War Regimental Service Records in the Records of the Michigan Military Establishment Collection (RG 59-14) to be digitized.. The records document the history of Michigan soldiers in the form of muster rolls, letters, lists of dead, monthly returns and other materials sent to the state Adjutant General during the war.
How to Use this Collection
Unlike most digitization projects, each individual item in this collection is not the access point. As in the physical reading room, patrons will read through the finding aid and select folders of interest. A link directs them to the folder where they review the documents. Currently, the portions of RG 59-14 that are digitized are the Regimental Service Records (Series 1.2.3) and the Muster and Roster Records (Series 1.3) of the Civil War.
